While these free social media courses are a good start, you can only get good at social media by regularly creating and sharing your own stories and content through blogging, visual content, and videos.
Another reason why you need a blog is that a blog-less website is mostly stale – there’s minimal update, not much new information, and not much interaction from the customers. A blog will make your website more customer and reader-friendly. It will also make your website more Google-friendly. Google loves new information. New articles = new information = Google love. Simple, right?
Not only do we have to stay on top of managing projects for our clients, but we must be diligent in marketing ourselves as well (Did you tweet yet today? Respond to all those blog comments? And how’s your Klout score coming along?).
8. Start blogging. Every business, and we mean every business, has something to gain by blogging regularly. The list of benefits is long, but here’s a short list of reasons small businesses should blog.
When I first wrote this post I recommended the Google Keyword Tool, but now it’s been renamed to the Google Keyword Planner, but is still an indispensable tool alongside the Google Webmaster Tools integration now that The Growth of Not Provided means we can’t use analytics reliably to find referring keywords. The Google Keyword Planner (tutorial) is still indispensable for this – I don’t think I have ever done a client training or consulting project where I haven’t used it! It’s harder to get to now it’s integrated into Google AdWords, but it’s still free if you don’t invest in AdWords.
How to use WordPress: Build a new landing page in WordPress, and use this as the focal point of your social media ad campaign or your social media updates. Certain plugins like WooDojo even let you hide the content in your sidebar for particular pages, which could be a great option for minimizing the look of your page.

You can choose “Affinity Audiences” — Target People in large numbers based on their long-term interests, “In-market Audiences” — Reach people that are actively searching and comparing products like yours, “Remarketing” — Target people that already had interaction with your website or app, “Customer email lists” — You can show ads in Gmail to people that have provided you with their Gmail email address.
