16. Guerilla Marketing. Guerilla marketing emphasizes creativity over budget, and strategies are often cheap and easy to implement, especially when localized. Broadcast your Twitter handle with sidewalk chalk, use an abandoned storefront as a canvas for street art, or plaster custom stickers on urban décor that makes those who stroll by look twice. There’s a ton of room for invention here, and you don’t need a big budget to be successful. We did a massive post about guerilla marketing recently, detailing a bunch of strategies and examples you should check out if you want to learn more!

When I first wrote this post I recommended the Google Keyword Tool, but now it’s been renamed to the Google Keyword Planner, but is still an indispensable tool alongside the Google Webmaster Tools integration now that The Growth of Not Provided keywords means we can’t use analytics reliably to find referring keywords.  The Google Keyword Planner (tutorial) is still indispensable for this – I don’t think I have ever done a client training or consulting project where I haven’t used it! It’s harder to get to now it’s integrated into Google AdWords, but it’s still free if you don’t invest in AdWords.

Platform-Based Social Media Analytics are the free analytics tools built into social media platforms themselves – on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and more. Though other tools can aggregate your data, looking at platform-based analytics allows you to look at each account as a unique entity, devising different strategies for each social media platform.

Get Shared- The basic role of this sort of content is to spread all through a group and get most extreme exposure. For the most part, this sort of content will interest the distinctive extremes of your market’s identity. This should be possible through funniness, stun, inspiration, pity, outrage, being astoundingly cool, making individuals grin, charming, or inconceivably genuine. The trap for something to “be viral around the web” is that it needs to speak to a vast gathering of individuals.

So go make a blog of your own! And of course, you will also need a good writer for it. My advice is that you pick one good writer from your company to write for you. Of course, pay him or her is due. Writing is no easy task but it’s rewards in the internet is endless nowadays. Just look at the SEO copywriters out there (cough*, yours truly). Of course, don’t forget to check out the freely available blog tips around the net to improve your blog in the direction you want it to go.

According to Strategy Analytics, in 2015 digital advertising accounted for approximately 30% of overall spending on advertising, or $52.8 billion. This still puts it almost $30 billion behind advertising spent on TV. However, online advertising grew by 13% in 2015, the fastest of any category.

While other channels require an upfront time and/or monetary investment, with PPC the only investment is the amount you spend on ads. If you are making a $30 margin on your product, you can spend $30 on ads and if you land one sale, you break even.

Another goal business owners should pursue in 2017 is using multiple marketing tactics in a coordinated way. A long time ago, the only way people learned about information was through gossip or the town crier. Now, there are a large variety of ways to get information to consumers, and the better these methods are used in conjunction, the more effective the results.

Hey Brian, was just about to chime in here with the same info—this course used to be free (including all Coursera courses) with an optional upgrade to the specialization, but there was a recent change. I also told my social interns about the course and that it was free; they were the ones that alerted me that it no longer was. Looks like Northwestern University in particular no longer allows taking courses that are part of a specialization for free on Coursera. I think some of the other specialization courses are the same now—even if you try to take them individually and without a certificate, they are no longer free. Too bad, because yes, when I took the course a few months ago, it was free and GREAT!

Are you aware of the fact that YouTube is the second biggest search engine on the planet, and the third most went to the website? While it might appear that a standard commercials ads may be the most effortless route for a business to take part in video highlighting, this is essentially not the situation. Video can be amazingly social, and brilliant video advertisers are obscuring the lines of what’s adequate for branded content. Videos act as one of the most interactive types of online marketing.

Referral-generated customers are the least expensive and most profitable and loyal source of new business you can get. In fact, these referred customers also tend to buy quicker, negotiate less, buy larger quantities, and refer even more business to you. Plus, today’s advertising rates are not inexpensive… so use referral systems to leverage (increase) the results generated from all of your advertisements and marketing techniques by getting your customers to spread the word about your company to bring in even more sales.

Significant amounts of referrals usually do NOT “just happen” so use “referral marketing systems” – techniques and tools that you can easily integrate into your business that will proactively generate referrals. For example, just concentrating on providing outstanding service will result in happier clients who will talk favorably about your business and refer new business to you. Consider setting up “joint-ventures” with other companies that could provide you with potentially lucrative partnerships and be sure to share the wealth with them. Start an “affiliate program” for your website to get other sites to send visitors to you. Give every customer who purchases from you five 10% discount cards that they can give out to their friends and watch the referrals roll in. Think of the up-side profit potential if you could integrate 5 new referral systems into your business and/or website!

Personally, video marketing is one of my most loved types of internet marketing channels in light of the fact that it melds such a variety of various components: Copywriting, SEO, SMO and obviously Video Production. Tragically, the greatest misguided judgment about video advertising is that you can shoot a video on your webcam, publish it up on YouTube, and then watch the income pour in. This couldn’t be any further far from reality, and if video advertising is something you’re thinking about, I would profoundly prescribe you get the best possible training before taking your video endeavors to next level where you can ensure great profits for investments.

Among the other challenges business must overcome to achieve better digital marketing results include a lack of training and expertise, an inability to prove a return on investment and increasing competition.
